Cell 6 BlogYou can stay as you are or shift your life into creative full-throttle thriving.

Start your creative spark burning by testing out these suggestions.

If you have a bad habit that is causing you problem and you would like to find a creative solution, try these few steps:

  • Think of the habit/ problem situation and try to sum it up into one sentence.
  • Imagine you are with your best friend. This is a friend who has your best interest at heart. Imagine what you think their advice to you would be?
  • Now friends can be a little biased so now imagine you are taking advice from a very wise person. What would their advice be? You may find this a little tricky, so it is important that you do not rush this step. Give yourself sufficient time for some answers to come bubbling up.
  • Reflect on all the ‘advice’ and then plan a course of action.

Want to improve the quality of your connections?

  • Join in on a rich belly laugh, even when you’re not sure what it is about.
  • At lunch time, rather than sitting at your desk, invite a friend for a chat.
  • Instead of hiding and denying a problem you have at work, ask a colleague to brainstorm solutions with you.
  • When you notice someone is feeling down, approach them with a genuine offer of assistance.
  • Greet everyone you pass with a smile when you walk around the office.

OR

Want some ideas to start being creative about caring for your physical health?

  • You can convert the crucial importance of drinking water into fun. Be imaginative and flavour your water with sliced cucumber, strawberries, orange and peach or something completely unexpected. Make a jug of weak rooibos tea and flavour with mint, cucumber, and crushed ice.
  • Children naturally love to run, climb, and tumble around; so tap into this creative energy and get playing with them. If you do not have your own children, organise a play date with your friends’ kids.

How to get started with practicing random acts of kindness?

The key is to act without the need for recognition, the joy is in the act itself. Leave a flower on a colleague’s desk, warm your partner’s slippers on a chilly morning, hold the lift doors for the latecomer, surprise the receptionist with a cup of tea.

How is your resilience?

How is your resilience?

Life keeps throwing us challenges. As we saw with Covid-19, in this globally connected world we are all touched by whatever is happening, no matter how ‘far away’. Resilience is a key quality of those who are best able to respond.

Fully vaccinated? Now what?!

Fully vaccinated? Now what?!

Let’s be clear – there is no quick fix to immediately ‘boost’ your immunity – no ‘wonder supplement’ or ‘power food’ will suddenly strengthen your immune system. However, living a healthy lifestyle does go a long way to keep your immune system strong. This has been found in a recent study showing that exercise may strengthen the antibody response to vaccination – both the COVID-19 vaccines and the annual flu vaccines.

Current News: South Africa and Ukraine

Here in South Africa, there seems to be two active responses on social media to the shock of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. One is a sense of outrage and sadness at the disruption and tragic loss of life. The other seems to be an almost flippant expression of gratitude for being far away ‘down south’ from the conflict zone.

Be mindful while living with cancer

What can those two illustrious South Africans, the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu and ex-President Nelson Mandela teach us about living with cancer?
In 1997 a concerned world heard that the man fondly known as ‘the Arch’, aged 65, had surgery for prostate cancer. A few years later in 2001, we were again shocked to hear that Madiba, aged 83, had also been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

What COVID-19 has taught us about human connection

What COVID-19 has taught us about human connection

One thing we have learned from the COVID-19 pandemic experience is that we are not happy when we are separated from others – loved ones, colleagues and even people we do not know. We like to go to restaurants, coffee shops and just hang around people. Not only do we like it, but the pandemic has also highlighted how we need connection for our mental and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes it seems that it is only when things are taken away, that we learn to appreciate their value and importance.
